Plaza de Armas
The Plaza de Armas in Santiago, Chile, is the main square and historical heart of the city. It’s located in the city center and has been a focal point since Santiago’s founding in 1541 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia. The square is surrounded by significant buildings, including the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago, the Central Post Office building, the Palacio de la Real Audiencia (now the National History Museum), and the Municipalidad de Santiago (Santiago City Hall).

The Plaza de Armas has been a central gathering place for centuries, hosting events, celebrations, and demonstrations. It’s also a popular spot for tourists to explore Santiago’s colonial past and admire the architecture of the surrounding buildings. Visitors can often find street performers, vendors selling crafts and souvenirs, and locals relaxing on the benches throughout the square.
